Ancestry Logged in homepaup

Here is an introduction to the problem and the solution. 


Introduction

The team that was tasked with redesigning and rebuilding Ancestry's logged in homepage was comprised of :
  • 1 Product Manager
  • 1 Back end Developer
  • 1 Front End Developer
  • 1 User Experience Designer
We knew the logged in homepage at ancestry was less than compelling to our users and meeting our growing business' needs. We decided to get user research to give us direction as we started this project.

Qualitative Findings

After interviewing current Ancestry users we found:
  • Users don’t know what they have access to.
  • The current page doesn't provide a hierarchy of tasks or compelling calls to action.
  • Users don’t know what to do next.
  • The placement of ads on our own page is confusing.
